Woman Charged In Death Of Retired Police Officer On Trial

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Prosecutors say a woman lured a retired Memphis police officer to a home where he was robbed and fatally shot by another man who is also charged in three other killings.

Shelby County prosecutor Ray Lepone delivered an opening statement Tuesday in the trial of Ashley Carver, who pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the death of Charles Jones.

Lepone said Carver asked Jones to come to a house where she lived with Michael Dean on Feb. 16, 2012. Lepone said Carver had a relationship with Jones, who was married to another woman.

Authorities say that after Dean robbed and shot Jones, Dean and another man placed the body in the trunk of Jones’ car, drove to Madison County and burned the body and the vehicle.
