Wireless Calls To 911 Still Experiencing Problems

Wireless carriers thought they had the problem of dropped calls resolved
but there are still service calls that have lost connection.

The idea of a dropped cell phone call is not a problem unique to making a
call for 911 service and it is not on 911 call center end according to Kim
Augustine, Madison County 911 Director. However, these calls are always
important and sometimes life and death so every call matters and even one
dropped call is too many adds Augustine. She says she wants the community
to know first, the state and local boards are in daily contact with
wireless service carriers discussing the problem, second this is not an
issue on the end of 911 and they are dependent on wireless carriers for
quality of service.

A review of 911 calls in Madison county shows that of 7000 calls on 2 have
been lost. in both instance 911 was able to call the person back.

Augustine says you should call 911 anytime you have an emergency need for
service and it is likely that you will not have any problems but it is a
good idea to keep the local land-line numbers stored in phone just in case
you do have trouble.
