Wife of Jackson Mayor makes ‘Best Interest Plea,’ in shoplifting case

Maintaining her innocence, for a misdemeanor shoplifting charges, Jessica “Nikki” Conger, wife of Jackson mayor Scott Conger, entered an ‘Alford – or best interest plea,’ in Jackson City Court, Thursday.

An Alford plea in a criminal case is where the defendant does not admit to the criminal act and asserts innocence.

Nikki Conger was charged for shoplifting at Walmart, 2196 Emporium Drive, in July 2019.

“She maintained her innocence of this charge as she has from the start,” Attorney William D. Massey said, “She will be under unsupervised probation for 11 months and 29 days, and at the end of that time … the case will be dismissed.

“It was in her best interest to put this behind her.”

From Memphis, Massey is certified as a criminal trial justice specialist who represented Conger, who is banned from Walmart.

Timothy Boxx, assistant district attorney from Dyersburg, said Walmart told Judge Steve Beal Walmart requested Conger not visit any of its stores.

Conger agreed to make restitution to Walmart and pay court costs.

She was accused of failing to scan or ring up 28 items at Walmart totaling $84.77.

The merchandise consisted of items Nikki Conger previously stated their children placed in the shopping cart, which was part of a process when the family went shopping.
