The Wendy’s at 1646 S. Highland Avenue has permanently closed.
Google lists it as “permanently closed,” and the location has been removed from the official Wendy’s website and app. Only three Jackson spots remain open.
This follows Wendy’s November 2025 announcement to close hundreds of underperforming stores nationwide.
No word yet on the building’s future.

Why was it closed?
Most likely for lack of business from the community. Management and staffing problems could have chased away business. The fast food industry has really struggled since Covid, and keeping a trained staff has been difficult. That location has always lagged behind the other locations in sales, and after a couple of ownership changes the newest owners decided to cut their losses. That location is still the original floor plan from when it was built, and the predicted volume would not justify a major remodel or new building. All the newer built locations provide for the menu changes and additions needed to operate more smoothly and profitably. The priorities established by franchisee owners may move them to close failing locations, and build in new locations to continue to meet contractual agreements for the area. The parent company has to agree to allow the franchise to close a location, and this is done only after evaluation by field reps and upper management. It doesn’t happen overnight. Wendy’s here hasn’t upheld the standards we saw from the original franchisee and the parent company when they operated the locations in past years. A couple of different franchisees located in other states have owned and operated the Jackson locations for about the last 15 years. Being a smaller market, I don’t believe they had the operational emphasis here as in their bigger metro areas under their broad ownership umbrella. We sure would like to see the Wendy’s of the 80’s operational values of quality, service and cleanliness.
