Investigation Determines that Saturday’s Severe Cutting Injuries were Self-Inflicted
(July 23, 2014) Jackson TN – Jackson police investigators determine that a man who was found severely cut on the parking lot of Mega-Mart on Saturday had cut himself in an attempted suicide.
Around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, police were called to Mega Mart, 2400 North Parkway. A 50-year-old Madison County man was found inside his car with serious cuts to his body including the neck. The man was transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Investigators learned that the man had driven to a remote area on a field road off of Browns Church Road, just outside the city limits. The man then cut and stabbed himself several times in a suicide attempt. When his injuries were not fatal, he drove himself to the Mega-Mart for help.
Investigators located the scene and retrieved the knife.
Police have notified the man’s family of the circumstances to ensure he receives mental health services.
