Anxious to move to the next chapter of her life, Dr. Vicky Foote became the fifth candidate to enter the race for the position of Mayor of the City of Jackson.
An educator, member of the Jackson-Madison County School Board and Jackson City Council, Foote made her announcement at the New Southern Hotel in downtown Jackson, Wednesday.
“I’ve tried to seek God’s will in everything I’ve done,” Foote said, “I’m hoping in my run for mayor, I’ll be able to zero in on making Jackson a better place to live, work, raise children and worship.
“Folks have told me to that I need to work on improving the streets, improving public education, I need to work on the economy (and) keep it thriving and growing and work on safer neighborhoods.”
Foote, a Jackson City Councilwoman – District 1 – announced in December, 2018, she would not seek re-election in May 2019, but formed an exploratory phase for a possible run for mayor.
During January, Foote assessed feedback from voters, and made her intentions known, Wednesday.
“I’m so excited about the next 90 days,” Foote said, “I’m on a mission to make Jackson a better place.”
The Mayor’s election will be held May 7.
Dr. Jerry Woods, an educator, Jimmy Eldridge, a State Representative from Jackson, Scott Conger, president/CEO of the United Way of West Tennessee and Mark Johnstone, a Jackson businessman, announced previously they will seek the position of Mayor of Jackson.
Jackson City Court Clerk Daryl Hubbard picked up a petition in January, but has not filed.
