Saturday, the Skyhawks defeated their rival, the Murray State Racers, 45-16. The Skyhawks played a great game all-around, but the icing on the cake was the 24 point 4th quarter that the Skyhawks managed to put together to close the door on any type of comeback.

Looking forward to October 22nd, the Skyhawks travel to the scorching hot Volunteers’ home turf out in Knoxville. The Skyhawks come into this game 4-2 on the season; 3-0 in conference play. Very respectable as a unit. The No. 14 ranked University of Tennessee at Martin squad overcame a slow start to rack up 691 yards of total offense and five defensive interceptions en route to a 45-16 road victory at Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State on Saturday.

While the offense was dynamic, the Skyhawk defense was dominant. UT Martin limited Murray State to just 287 yards of total offense – allowing 114 yards on the ground and 173 yards through the air. The team was especially potent in the secondary where the squad tallied five interceptions – marking the highest single-game total since 2001.

Several players posted impressive individual performances in all three phases of the game. Quarterback Dresser Winn completed 27-of-47 pass attempts for a career-high 463 yards while securing one rushing touchdown on a keeper. The wide receiver tandem of Colton Dowell and DeVonte Tanksley put on a show, combining for 392 yards on 21 receptions.

The Volunteers battle the Skyhawks next week, but before they square off; Tennessee has to go through the Alabama Crimson Tide. Josh Heupel’s squad stare down a tough battle, but the nation’s best offense seems to be up to the challenge. The Vols’ have 2,739 total yards of offense through five games. Tennessee averages 7.21 yards per play and 547.8 yards per game. Hendon Hooker is playing like a Heisman hopeful and the receiving core is electric when called upon. The biggest concern for Tennessee is the defensive side of the ball, as they have slipped up multiple times this season.
