USJ travelled to ECS Thursday October 10th, and engaged in an all out war. Both offenses were firing on all cylinders all game long but the Bruins made a few momentum shifting stops to secure the 49-35 W. Games like this one are the ones that require the grit, raw emotion, and determination that make the game of football amazing.
Multiple players contributed on the offensive side of the ball. Senior QB Corben Howard led the team to victory as he went 20-32 for 345 yards with two touchdowns, and one rushing. Senior Miles Horton also had a great game with 1 touchdown and multiple great catches. Senior Alex Wallace also caught the ball insanely well. The biggest standout on the offensive side of the ball was Senior running back Noah Spencer, he carried the ball fearlessly with 198 yards and 4 touchdowns, another monster performance from a great athlete.
On defense the Bruins had some struggles but persevered when it mattered. Junior Drew English had a great game. He was an absolute head hunter and ball hawk all game long, with his biggest moment coming when he recovered a fumble that helped seal the game. English States, “We started out soft, but Coach Pritchard gave us a great talk in the locker room at half and we came out with a different mentality and played our brand of football.” This goes to show the team’s ability to come together and fight through adversity. Senior Ben Melton had lots of textbook tackles as he played with great passion and aggression. Noah Spencer also contributed on the defensive side with a game ending interception as ECS was driving down the field. It was an all out team effort with multiple players helping to secure the win.
The squad enjoyed a well earned bye week, and will go back into battle against St Benedict on October 25th at home. Hopefully they can add another W to the column, Go Bruins
