Unwanted Prescription Drug Take Back Program

Saturday, April 30 at three different locations in the city

JACKSON Tenn – On Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics Unit and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 11th opportunity in six years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Bring your pills for disposal to Kroger Pharmacy at 41 Stonebrook Place, CVS Pharmacy at 1405 N. Highland and Walgreens Pharmacy at 1405 S. Highland.

Authorities say this initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.

Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. In addition, they say you  are not advised to use usual methods for disposing of unused medicines- flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards.

The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
