ATLANTA – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) released its 2020 All-America Teams Monday, March 23, 2020. Union University senior Jada Smith was named first team All-America. This is the first All-America honor for Smith.

According to a press release from Steven Aldridge Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Communication at Union, Jada Smith becomes the fourth of the five Smith siblings to be named All-America (Jordan Smith-UAH, 2014; Jason Smith-UAH, 2006; Jaime Smith-UAH, 2013). Jada Smith was also the third sibling to be named GSC Player of the Year (Jaime Smith 2013; Joe Smith-UAH 2001). She was the first sibling to earn the GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award.

Smith, a 5-foot-9 senior guard from Hoover, Ala., averaged 18.8 points per game this season, third in the GSC, and led the conference with 5.4 assists per game. Smith led Union to the GSC Regular Season and Tournament Titles. Smith was named the GSC Player of the Year and was named to the GSC All-Tournament team. She became just the second player in Union women’s basketball history to surpass 1,500 career points, 500 career rebounds, and 500 career assists. She finished her career with 1,826 points, 573 rebounds, and 547 assists.

Smith’s senior season was ended early as the NCAA canceled all postseason championships due to COVID-19. She finished the year, averaging 18.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. As a guard, she shot 54 percent from the field, 39 percent from 3-point range, and 90 percent from the free throw line.
