JACKSON, Tennessee – Union University women’s soccer head coach Josh Alford has added Chris Baker to the coaching staff for the 2023 season.
According to a press release from Steven Aldridge – Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Communication – Baker will serve as a volunteer assistant coach and will specifically be tasked with coaching the goalkeepers.
Alford said, “Coach Baker is a great addition to the staff. His knowledge and experience working with Goal Keepers is extensive and speaks for itself. He also has great relationships with the community, high schools and competitive soccer clubs. We are excited to have him.”
Baker most recently has served as a coach with the Jackson Soccer Club from September 2013 to 2023, Director of Coaching 2020 -present. Trinity Christian Academy in Jackson as Head Coach from July 2018, to present. Madison Academic Magnet High School in Jackson as a coach from August 2015 to 2018, and as goalkeeper coach for the Paducah (Kentucky) Pumas from January 2013 to 2023.
Baker said, “I am excited to work with Coach Josh (Alford) and the women’s soccer program at Union. I am looking forward to coming in and getting to work with the goalkeepers and to make an impact.”
Baker is a 2014 graduate of Bethel University with a degree in physical education/health. He added a master’s degree from Bethel in 2017. He also attended Farnborough Form College and Edgborrow School, both in the United Kingdom before coming to America to play college soccer.
During his time at Bethel, Baker played two seasons for the soccer team where he was named team captain. He earned all-conference in 2013 and all-academic in 2013 and 2014.
Baker has his USSF National C License and the NSCAA Level 1 and 2 Goalkeeping License.
Baker spent five years in Camberley England working for Duo Tech as an installation and maintenance engineer. While in England, he played two years for the Hayes and Yeading FC as the goalkeeper.
