Union University Athletics is winding down the semester, but has two more home basketball dates before Christmas. Union will host Gulf South Conference foes AUM and Montevallo before leaving for the break. AUM comes to Jackson Thursday, December 18, with the women’s game at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. Montevallo will be at Fred DeLay. Gymnasium Saturday with a women’s game at 2 p.m. and a men’s game at 4 p.m.
The Union Lady Bulldogs are 7-4 on the season and 2-1 in the GSC. Union is receiving votes in the WBCA rankings, just outside the top-25 at No. 27. Union’s streak of 75 straight weeks in the top-25 ended earlier this year. Two of Union’s losses are to top-5 teams in the WBCA national rankings.
The Union men are 6-3 on the season and 2-1 in the GSC. The Bulldogs have won two straight and four of its last five games. Union is coming off a 76-74 win over Christian Brothers, getting a tip-in in the final seconds to seal the win.
Union basketball again claimed multiple weekly awards this week. Abigail Bryan was named the GSC Freshman of the Week for the third time this season. Terrence Ringo, Jr. of the Bulldogs was named the GSC Player of the Week. He also added his second Tennessee Sports Player of the Week award.
