KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released its 2020-21 Team Academic Excellence Awards and its Honors Court Awards. Union University’s men’s team was named among the list of NABC Team Academic Excellence Award winners. In addition, Dusan Djordjevic and Caleb Pearce were named to the NABC Honors Court.
Union head coach David Niven said, “I’m very proud of our team. We talk about the relentless pursuit of excellence in our program. Being excellent on the court comes naturally for many college basketball players. These guys proved you can be excellent in the classroom as well!
According to Steven Aldridge, Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Communication at Union University – Union was the only Gulf South Conference team listed among the team academic excellence award winners.
The team award required a minimum of a combined 3.0 GPA or higher, while the individual awards required a 3.2 GPA or higher, having reached junior academic status and having been a student at Union for at least one full year.
Union is coming off a year in which the team earned a 2-seed in the west division, advancing to the GSC Tournament for the sixth time in seven years. It was Union’s third straight appearance.
