TSSAA Division I Class 3A Region 7 Preview

Division I Class 3A Region 7, like most others is squarely a two-team race, this time between Covington and Dyersburg. But, each team has pieces available to build off of.

Bolivar

Hayden Williams, Head Coach

2021 Record (2-7 Overall, 1-4 District)

Preview: Scoring only 14+ points once is quite the red flag for any football team. Struggling on both sides of the field means that Bolivar has a long way to go but could use last season’s down year as a road map to fix the program.

Bolton

2021 Record (3-7 Overall, 0-5 District)

Preview: Bolton had struggles on both sides of the ball. All their wins came against Memphis teams. Going winless in region play is also a difficult pill to swallow.

Covington

J.R. Kirby, Head Coach

2021 Record (10-3 Overall, 4-1 District)

Preview: Covington brings back a loaded team fresh off their 10-3 season. The Chargers lost in overtime to Dyersburg in the state quarterfinals. Covington put up a dominant 35.8 points a game while only allowing 14.3 points a game.

Dyersburg

Bart Stowe, Head Coach

2021 Record (12-1 Record, 5-0 District)

Preview: Making it all the way to the state semifinals is no small task. The Trojans brought their A-game last season; going undefeated in district play. Not much more can be said that hasn’t already, the Trojans look to continue dominance for years to come.

Millington

Jason Germain, Head Coach

2021 Record (6-6 Overall, 3-2 District)

Preview:To say that Millington has fallen on hard times isn’t a stretch. Bringing in a 6-6 record is a difficult pill to stomach. The story of their season revolved around beating bad football teams, while scraping by against some opponents better than them. Look for Millington to try to improve but this year brings forth a tough schedule and region that will be a hard battle.

Ripley

Justin Cruse, Head Coach

2021 Record (5-8 Overall, 2-2 District)

Preview: After starting 3-0 ended up 2-7 to round off the season and ended up losing to Covington in playoffs. Ripley had a strong running game but will need to add more of a passing attack to right the ship.
