Class 1A Region 7 Preview
Region 7 seems to be a two-team race. The main question now remains: Can the other six teams keep it competitive on their way to championship week in Chattanooga for the 2022 season?Â
Peabody
Shane Jacobs, Head Coach
2021 Record (11-2 Overall, 5-0 District)
2022 Preview: Coming off a dominant 2021 campaign, the Golden Tide look to continue their dominance. Having an overall record of 11-2, and undefeated in district play; Peabody will look to rekindle that same fire this season. During the 2021 season the Tide had an astounding 37.5 point average, 14.5 point against average, and a whopping 23 point differential. Look for Peabody to dominate the offensive side of the ball as well as suffocate teams on defense.
Lake County
Jonathan Canada, Head Coach
2021 Record (7-5 Overall, 4-0 District)
2022 Preview
Coming off a decent 7-5 season, the Falcons are looking to fix some cracks in the armor for the upcoming season. In 2021, Lake County averaged 26 points, 17.9 against, and differential of +8.1. Things Lake County will definitely look to improve is a spotty defense and to bolster their offense to give themselves a cushion if their defense stumbles.
West Carroll
Josh Wolfe, Head Coach
2021 Record (8-4 Overall, 3-2 District)
2022 Preview
Coming off a respectable 8-4 season, West Carroll played decent football in the 2021 season albeit somewhat rocky district play. West Carroll had point per averages of 27.1, 27.1 points against, leaving them with an even differential. Overall, while the eight wins isn’t anything to scoff at both sides of the ball will look to be improved on.
Humboldt
Craig Pettigrew, Head Coach
2021 Record (4-7 Overall, 2-3 District)
2022 Preview
One word to describe Humboldt’s season last year-disappointing. Limping out of the 2021 season with a poor 4-7 overall record and a 2-3 district record, the Vikings are really looking to put last year’s play behind them. With point per averages of 21.0, and points against 31.0 with a differential of -10, Humboldt has lots of holes to fill to fix their turbulent play in the 2022 season.
Halls
Jason Curtis. Head Coach
2021 Record (1-9 Overall, 0-5 District)
2022 Preview
Halls had a very tough year to say the least, seemingly the wheels fell off during last year’s campaign. the Tigers ended last season 1-9, going winless in District play. The Tigers can only hope to turn around what was a tragic season and gladly move onto the 2022 season. With point per averages of four points against at a whopping 36.1, putting the differential at -32.1 on the year.
Greenfield
Russ Brown, Head Coach
2021 Record (3-7 Overall, 1-4 District)
2022 Preview
Greenfield comes off a 3-7 campaign. Lackluster to say the least. However, a bright spot for the program comes in way of new head coach, former University of North Alabama assistant coach Tyler Rice. Last season, UNA averaged 28.2 points and 368 yards total offense per game. He was an assistant coach at UT Martin from 2017-19 and won the 2010 Class A Mr. Football during his tenure at Wayne County. He’s also the son of state championship coach Rick Rice, who is now at Summertown. Rice will replace Don Pitt, who resigned in May to become the offensive coordinator at Milan. Greenfield had point per averages of 18.2, points against 19.1, and a differential of -0.9.
