Class 1A Region 6 Preview
Region 6 is made up of McKenzie’s continued dominance in the past few years as well as notable risers, McEwen and Gleason, and a few teams that have stumbled, to say the least.
Dresden
Keith Hodge, Head Coach
2021 Record (8-4 Overall, 3-1 District)
Preview
Dresden took few steps back from when they were competing for state titles; however, they still play very impressive football. Coming off a 2021 campaign with an impressive 8-4 record, and a dominant win over Gleason (41-0), the Lions look to bring that same energy into the upcoming season. With a point per average of 25.6 and points against at 13.3, giving the DHS a 12.3 positive differential and confidence entering the new year.
Gleason
Jamie Roney, Head Coach
2021 Record (6-5 Overall, 3-3 District)
Preview
Gleason is one of those teams that’s hard to gauge because they won the games they were expected to win and lost the ones expected to lose. With a point per average of 31.9 and points against at 27.5; putting the team’s differential at +4.4, you find a team with a balanced attack on offense and steady defense that’s ready for the 2022 season.
Bruceton
Trey Crews, Head Coach
2021 Record (0-9 Overall, 0-5 District)
Preview
If there was one word to describe the Tigers’ season it would be “difficult.” Going winless is always difficult, but the bright side is that you can only improve. Looking statistically, the Tigers brought in points per average of 6.9 points, against points allowed at 33.4 –– a differential of -26.5. Overall, a weak offense and defense held back the Tigers last season. Hopefully, Bruceton can bounce back in the upcoming season.
McEwen
Phil Ross, Head Coach
2021 Record (7-4 Overall, 3-2 District)
Preview
McEwen football had a respectable season in the 2021 campaign. The Warriors were 7-4 overall, and started the season on a four-game win streak. McEwen played well on both sides of the ball all season. In terms of numbers, the Warriors point per average was 26.9 points, against them at 20.1; putting the differential at +6.8. McEwen will look to keep a high-powered offense and stout defense in the new campaign.
McKenzie
Wade Comer, Head Coach
2021 Record (14-1 Overall, 5-0 District)
McKenzie finished 2021 as a dominant powerhouse. The state runner-up knocked off Peabody, in turn, eliminating their divisional rival from capturing three-straight 2A titles. However, McKenzie lost to South Pittsburg in the state championship. Looking statistically, the Rebels had a point per average of 42.5 points against a points allowed average at 11.5, putting the differential at +31.
Perry County
Calvin Zemer, Head Coach
2021 Record (3-7 Overall, 1-3 District)
Preview
Perry County’s 2021 football campaign only managed three wins. A struggling offense and lackluster defense defined last season. With a points per average of 7.4 against points allowed at 29, putting the Vikings at a -21.6 differential. Perry County has to look for any spark to turn their 2022 campaign around.
South Fulton
Eric Knott, Head Coach
2021 Record (4-6 Overall, 2-4 District)
Preview
South Fulton must improve defensively to improve as a team after going 4-6 during the 2021 season. With point per averages of 16.7 compared to 36.3 against, a differential of -19.6, the numbers don’t lie. The Red Devils offense has to get stronger if they want to mask a struggling defense.Â
