TSSAA Division 1 Class 2A Region 7 Preview

Class 2A Region 7 Preview

Region 7 seems to be a three-team race. That leaves the other half of the region with questions to answer going into this season

Camden

Matt McConnell, Head Coach

2021 Record (3-8 Overall, 2-4 District)

2022 Preview:

Camden struggled offensively last season, going winless in the month of September. However, Camden did win big by defeating Houston Co. and Gibson County.

Gibson County

Charles Rogers, Head Coach

2021 Record (2-7 Overall, 1-4 District)

2022 Preview

A record of 2-7 isn’t pretty. It’s been a while since Gibson Co. had dominant wins. They lost first 5 failed to make playoffs, but they did go on a two game win streak to end season. They look to capitalize on it this season

Houston Co

Orman Meadow, Head Coach

2021 Record (0-10 Overall, 0-5)

2022 Preview

Houston County is a struggling team that went winless last season. However, the offense showed signs of life to end their season. That being said, the defense gave up 30+ in all games except one.

Huntingdon

Eric Swenson, Head Coach

2021 Record (9-3 Overall, 4-1 District)

2022 Preview

After a surprise exit in a one point loss in the playoffs, the Mustangs had a surprising run in the 2021 season. Huntingdon had huge wins over Peabody and Milan and Riverside. Huntingdon’s dominant running game propelled them forward last season.

Union City

Nick Markle ,Head Coach

2021 Record (7-4 Overall, 3-2 District)

2022 Preview

Union City will need to step it up to the next level by winning  a game(s) that no one expects them to. They win the games they are expected to and lose the ones they are expected to. Their record was respectable and they had a very balanced game-plan regarding both sides of the ball.

.

Westview

Jarod Neal, Head Coach

2021 Record (15-1 Overall, 5-0 District)

2022 Preview

Obviously, the defending 2A state champions have to replace one of if not the best QB in state history in Ty Simpson, which is certainly a tall task to fill. The team had a completely dominant offense and only surrendered more than 18 points twice last year.
