A Milan mother was arrested after her two young children overdosed on THC-infused gummies she left within their reach.
On November 28, Gibson County deputies were called to a home on Trenton Milan Highway where they found a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old unresponsive. The children’s mother, Candice Hickson, reportedly told officers that the kids had gotten into her THC gummies, which she had been keeping in the bathroom.
Both children were rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis for emergency treatment.
Hickson was taken into custody and charged with two counts of child abuse and endangerment. She is being held on a $25,000 bond.
Sheriff Paul Thomas says this serves as a reminder that although certain THC gummies are legal to be purchased by adults, they can be dangerous. Thomas says regardless of the label amount says on the product, it can be incorrectly reported to the consumer and these products need to be treated as any other medication, locked up and out of reach of children.
