The Blues at Lambuth – ‘A Masterclass Series’ – weekly music education program begins Feb. 7

The University of Memphis Lambuth is hosting The Blues at Lambuth: A Masterclass Series, a free weekly music education program from February 7th to April 4th at 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., at the Wilder Student Union on the University of Memphis Lambuth campus.

According to a press release from Tate Cronin – B3 Creative Agency – account manager- each class will highlight a different aspect of blues music and offer a workshop to provide participants with hands-on experience. The series will include an exploration of the genre’s history, how to play instruments, a poetry workshop, and more. The event will conclude with an open mic night featuring the talent of class attendees and local musicians.

Classes and instructors include:
12 Bar Blues: A Basis for the American Song – February 7th – Elam McKnight
Blues Poetry Workshop – February 14th – James Cherry
Blues: The Mother of American Music – February 21st – Murry Young
Blues Harmonica – March 14th – J.D. Taylor
Vocals/Keyboard – March 21st – Kellye Cash Sheppard and Steve Cothran
The Evolution of Blues Guitar – March 28th – Leland Porter
Open Mic – April 4th – various performers

With a diverse roster of musicians sharing first-hand knowledge, members of the community have the opportunity to gain unparalleled insight into the history, instrumentation, and cultural significance of the blues.

“We have an exciting lineup of classes hosted by local musicians who want nothing more than for each guest to leave with a greater appreciation of this historical genre of music,” said Lendon Noe, Director of The Blues at Lambuth: A Masterclass Series. “This series is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from some of our region’s most talented performing artists. And who knows? After the series is over, you might even be able to play a song or two!”
