How fortunate I was to meet Harbert Alexander Sr. forty-seven years ago when I first moved to Jackson. In looking for a bank, I found a “forever friend” and family who introduced me to most everyone in Jackson.
The Alexander family made me feel a part of their family; Our paths crossed many times over the next few years from serving on Lambuth University Board of Trustees, Jackson Symphony Board, Jackson Madison County Bicentennial Commission, and many other facets of Jackson.
Shortly after my change in careers from First United Methodist Church to The Bank of Jackson, Harbert became our Chairman of the Board.
How wonderful it was to work closely with him at the bank. Often, he would say to me, “Be everywhere, involved in all aspects of Jackson and get to know everyone.”
How important those words have been as I try to be involved in every aspect of Jackson and get to know as many of our Jackson newcomers as possible. Why is this important? It is so important to assimilate newcomers into our community, hoping they will love Jackson as much as I do and be involved in this wonderful community.
There will never be anyone like Harbert Sr., because of his love for God, his church, his family, his friends, his co-workers and all who ever knew him. Thank you, Harbert, for your leadership and friendship.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends and loved ones during a reception to be held at Memorial Hall on the grounds of First Presbyterian Church immediately following the service. A private interment will be in the family plot at Hollywood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Jackson Madison County Bicentennial Legacy Park or to the local charity of your choice.
