Tennessee prosecutor will seek jail time on all gun offenses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A prosecutor in Tennessee says his office will seek jail time on all gun-related offenses, among other new policies.

In a news release Wednesday, Nashville District Attorney Glenn Funk said the policies aim to make the city safer and address the proliferation of guns in the hands of convicted felons.

Funk says his office will seek to present all gun cases to the grand jury. Once the cases are in criminal court, Funk says prosecutors will seek jail time on the gun-related offenses.

He says anyone prohibited from buying or having a gun due to criminal record, age or mental health condition will be prosecuted.

Funk says prosecutors will continue seeking juvenile detention for 30 days prior to resolution of cases where a juvenile is arrested for having a gun.
