Tennessee Music Awards will be presented at University of Memphis Lambuth, today

Jackson becomes Music City, when the 2018 Tennessee Music Awards are presented at the Hamilton Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Memphis Lambuth, at 6:30 p.m., today.

Awards will be presented in 27 categories and Jackson’s W.S. ‘Fluke’ Holland and Carl Perkins will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Holland, who was born April 22, 1935 in Saltillo, Born April 22, 1935, is best known as the individual who played drums on the 1955 Sun Records recording of “Blue Suede Shoes” and performed on the “Million Dollar Quartet” session that featured Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash.

Carl Lee Perkins was born in Tiptonville, in Lake County.

Perkins’s songs were recorded by artists (and friends) as influential as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Johnny Cash, which further established his place in the history of popular music.

Paul McCartney of The Beatles once stated that “if there were no Carl Perkins, there would be no Beatles.”

NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM personality Keith Sherley, who is one of five nominated for radio DJ of the year, will emcee the event.
