(September 27, 2013) Jackson, Tenn.- The County breakdown of the Labor Force Estimates were released this week.
The state unemployment rate for August was 8.5%, which offers no change from the July rate, but it is up .4% from August of last year.
Gibson County’s 12.5% is down from the July rate of 12.8%, but up from the August 2012 rate of 12.0%.
Gibson County has the highest rate of counties listed here. They rank number 91 of 95 in the state.
The highest unemployment rate is 16.2% in Scott County. The lowest rate is found in Lincoln County. Their rate is 5.9%.
Chester County has an unemployment rate of 9.1% which is down from July of this year and August of last year.
Crockett County saw a slight uptick from July’s rate of 10.0%. This 10.1% rate is down, however, from the August 2012 rate of 10.2%.
Hardeman County has a rate of 11.4%. This time last year, the rate was 11.1. The July 2013 rate was 11.7%.
Henderson County has an improved rate of 11.7% from the July 2013 rate of 13.2%. That is the biggest drop on our list. However, this rate is up from the 10.6% of August 2012.
Madison County’s unemployment rate is the same as it was in July of this year. The 8.8% rate is higher than the 8.5% of August 2012.
Jackson itself has a 9.6% unemployment rate, the same as July of this year. This is up from the August 2012 rate of 9.2%
