Teachers Getting First Look At TCAP Test Replacement

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee teachers this summer are getting a first
look at the new test that will replace TCAP.

WPLN-FM reports schools had been preparing to
switch to a nationally-available, computerized test until the legislature
mandated Tennessee develop its own assessment.

The new test is called TNReady. The biggest difference between it and TCAP
is the way the questions are asked. Instead of multiple choice, students in
grades 3 through 11 will be given essay questions, even in math.

In an email and video to teachers, commissioner Candice McQueen told them
recently they can prepare for the new test by looking at sample questions.
That will show them how questions will be asked. But they will have to wait
until September to find out the curriculum standards the tests will cover.
