TCAT Jackson announces additional $1 million ‘GIVE Grant Award’

According to a press release from Brittany Crockett – Social Media & Online Content, Adelsberger Marketing – Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) at Jackson is thrilled to announce that Gov. Bill Lee has awarded TCAT Jackson an additional GIVE (Governor’s Investment in Vocational Education) Grant in the amount of $1 million.

In partnership with SW TN – Partnership for Allied Health (PACE), TCAT Jackson has been awarded this grant to partner with local schools in Hardeman, Fayette, Haywood, and Henderson Counties and gives the ability to direct students to education pathways through TCAT Jackson, Jackson State Community College, UT-Martin at Somerville, and University of Memphis at Lambuth. This will help to fulfill the overwhelming need for healthcare workers (especially nurses) throughout our country.

With this proposed grant, immediate industry needs will be addressed by offering a health care education pathway, beginning with dual enrollment in high school with patient care technician certifications. Tennessee College of Applied Technology Jackson will conduct dual enrollment with high schools and continue to address the demand for licensed practical nurses.

Other local higher ed institutions will also receive funding through this GIVE grant. Jackson State Community College will receive enhancements to their current RN programming and University of Memphis Lambuth Campus and University of Tennessee Martin will have bachelor of nursing programs through a LPN to BSN program.

These opportunities will be supported by the Southwest Local Workforce Development Board, who will provide support funds for students who are WIOA eligible and the Rural Health Association of Tennessee, who will provide work-based learning apprenticeships for youth and adults who are either dislocated workers, new entrants, or changing professions into healthcare.
