With her high school basketball career behind her, Trinity Christian Academy’s Savannah Lee is ready for the next phase at the University of Montevallo.
“I’m really excited to go to the University of Montevallo,” Savannah said. “Especially getting to play under Coach Gary Van Atta. He recruited me from the beginning … one of the main reasons I chose Montevallo.”
“I know what kind of coach he (is),” He was not only going to doing to take me not only as player and make me better, but he was going to take (teammates) and make all us better, and push us to the limit.”
Savannah made her comments after signing scholarship papers to continue her education and basketball career.
Located in Montevallo, Alabama, the Falcons are members of the Gulf South Conference.
“It’s going to be a fun experience,” Savannah said. “The university is gorgeous … and the Lord’s will is definitely done here.”
In the classroom, Savannah leaves TCA with a 4.495 grade point average.
On the basketball floor, she averaged 20.5 points per game, and pulled down an average of 8.8 rebounds per game during her senior year.
Savannah set a school record in rebounding with 1,012, which shattered the old record of 645.
A post player, Savannah handed out 75 assists and was credited with 155 steals during her career with the Lady Lions.
Matthew Coble, who coaches the girls basketball team at TCA, called it an honor to watch as Savannah signed with the University of Montevallo.
“Her had work has paid off,” Matt Coble said. “As a player, she is an incredibly hard worker. She overachieves and she is well-rounded and talented … graduating with honors.
“Again that tells you about her work ethic – she represents our school with dignity and class.”
