At the request of 25th Judicial District Attorney General Mark Davidson, TBI special agents continue to investigate the circumstances of an officer-involved shooting on Monday afternoon involving deputies of the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office.
Preliminary information indicates the incident happened shortly after 4:00 in the 7600 block of Richardson Landing Road in Drummonds, where deputies responded to a report of an altercation between two brothers. When they arrived, a short foot chase ensued with one of the men, which led to a mobile home on the property. For reasons under investigation, the situation escalated, resulting in a deputy firing at the man, who was struck and critically wounded. No law enforcement officers were hurt in the incident.
Currently, this investigation remains active and ongoing. TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with the district attorney general for his further review and consideration. The TBI acts solely as fact-finders in its cases and does not determine whether an officer was justified in these matters. That decision rests with the district attorney general requesting TBI’s Involvement.
The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective departments to answer as they see fit.
