JACKSON Tenn – Violent crime and gang activity will be the subject of a Town Hall forum hosted by Sen Lowe Finney. This will be Sen. Finney’s final Town Hall in Jackson as state Senator.
Finney told WNWS the fight against crime has been one of the centerpieces of his time as Senator. According to Finney, during the last two years, he has passed several pieces of legislation to reduce crime including measures to shut down alcohol-selling establishments with repeated beer violations. He also co-sponsored the Community Safety Act, which, Finney says, makes it easier to prove gang activity in court, and gives courts the authority to restrict gang activity within a certain geographic area, to keep members from congregating.
TBI Director Mark Gwyn will also attend the forum. Finney said “As the state’s lead investigative law enforcement official, Director Gwyn is a key leader in the statewide fight against gangs in Tennessee.
The Town Hall will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. tonight at the University of Memphis Lambuth, in the Wisdom Parlor in the Varnell-Jones Administrative Building. The event is free and open to the public.
