JACKSON, Tenn (Sept 28, 2017) – Thursday morning emergency crews responded to the Ed Jones Federal Building, 109 South Highland Avenue in downtown Jackson. Jackson Police and Fire Department were alerted to a suspicious package inside the federal courthouse which prompted the evacuation of all employees. Authorities cordoned off the building and people in the area were told to stay inside.

Jackson Police officers worked with FBI to identify and contain the package. The contents were determined not to be a threat or pose a danger, said Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser.
The federal courthouse reopened shortly after noon on Thursday. The investigation is ongoing.
