(September 28, 2013) Jackson, Tenn.- The West Tennessee Heart Walk was held this weekend at the Jackson Generals Ball Park.
400 to 500 participants filled the area in front of the stadium preparing to walk the non-competitive 5K route.
The walkers included survivors of heart issues and supporters of the cause.
Christy Futrell, Regional DIrector for the Heart Walk in Madison County for the American Heart Association, spoke to us about why the survivors walk.

Multiple survivors walked the route, including Sherry Hutcherson. She spoke about what she went through when she was diagnosed with her heart condition.

Hutcherson, who went through her illness three years ago, says that it is a miracle that she is still alive today.

Freda Robinson is also a survivor. Her problems were discovered in 2012. She said that she was in denial because she was very active and didn’t understand how it could happen to her. She told use her story and how she coped with the diagnosis.

Walking alongside the survivors were supporters of the cause. Supporters like Connie Miller, a registered nurse at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, who spoke with us about how it feels to walk for a cause like this.

Brooks Brasfield, Vice President of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at Union University, also participated in the walk. He discussed with us why he and his team walked this year.

The walk isn’t all that the fraternity is doing “Halloweek” to support the American Heart Association.

West Tennessee Healthcare and the Lift Center had multiple tents and exhibits educating those in attendance about healthy lifestyles.
