Students tour Toyota Bodine during 6th annual Manfacturing Day, Friday

Students from the Carroll County Technical Center, toured Toyota Bodine Aluminum, 301 James Lawrence Road, during the sixth annual ‘Manufacturing Day,’ Friday.

More than 500 students from area high schools in the 14 county Jackson State Community College service area participated in the event sponsored by the National Association of Manufacturers and coordinated by JSCC, the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, the Jackson Chamber and 20 manufacturers in, and outside Madison County.

Jason Bates, the administration manager at Toyota Bodine, said the visit benefits the student and the manufacturer.

“We’re really fortunate to have these students here, and to teach them about manufacturing, and the importance of manufacturing to our American economy,” Jason Bates said, “Manufacturing is a core part of our economy, and we want to have young people understand how things are made, and what potential types of jobs that are out there for them when they graduate from high school and then go on to get further education at a technical school or community college.”

Carroll County Technical Center had 16 students participate in Manufacturing Day at Toyota Bodine.
The event attracted more than 250 total students to area facilities – an equal number that participated one week earlier on October 19.

Toyota Bodine Aluminum in Jackson manufactures 4-cylinder engine blocks for Camry, Corolla, RAV4 and V6 engine blocks for, Camry Highlander, Sienna, the Tacoma pickup and the Lexus ES and Lexus RX, and the V8 engine block for Sequoia SUV and Tundra truck.

Toyota Bodine also manufactures automatic transmission cases and housings for Avalon, Camry, Lexus RX 350 and Sienna.

About 2.2 million engine blocks and transmission cases are manufactured each year at the Jackson facility.
