Student shot in leg at Jackson high school

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) — Police say a student was shot in the leg by another student at a Jackson high school. They said the injuries were not life-threatening.
Deputy Chief Barry Michael says an altercation took place between two male students after dismissal at Liberty Technology Magnet High School on Thursday.

Michael says a 16-year-old student pulled out a handgun and shot the other in the leg. Their names and ages were not immediately available.

The 17-year-old victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Michael says the other student was arrested at his grandmother's house.

Michael says the shooting happened on campus but outside the school building, near an area where students were loading onto a bus. Police are investigating, and there was no immediate word on possible charges.
