Robotic project, Wound Center approved by WTH Trustees

The West Tennessee Healthcare Board of Trustees held its final monthly meeting for 2018 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Tuesday.

The District authorized a resolution to contract and do all things necessary to effectuate the design, renovation and equipment purchases for the Kirkland Cancer Center Pharmacy Robotic Project at a cost of $1,955,700, of which $1 million has been received as a donation from Dr. Eugene Reese for this project, and $955,700, which will come from approved District budgeted funds.

The system has very sophisticated optical imaging, sensors and gravimetric technology ensuring that there is never a incorrect drug vial or final container placed in the robot – and dosing is always correct.

The Board also authorized to implement the Wound Care Center at Dyersburg Hospital, at a cost of $492,130.70 of approved budgeted District funds.

A wound care center in Kennett, Missouri – which is 45 miles west of Dyersburg – closed in June of this year.

‘Eater’ of the Free World visits Jackson, Wednesday

It’s Man vs. Food at KC Finn’s, 1027 South Highland Ave., when Randy Santel, billed as a world class professional eater, participates in the ‘Big Burger Challenge,’ Dec. 26.

The public is invited, and prepping for the challenge begins at 3:30 p.m., and 15 minutes later, Santel – who makes his home in St. Louis – will get very busy.

“Anyone who has (eaten) here in the last two-and-a-half years knows we have the ‘Gigantic Burger Challenge,’ said Charlie Finn, who co-owns the restaurant with wife Kathy, “It will consist of eating a five-pound burger and a pound of fries and he’s got to do it in 30 minutes.”

It’s a competition several have tried at KC Finn’s, but no one has won – yet.

Santel, who videos the competition for youtube.com, will pay $30 to try and complete the task, and if successful, he’ll receive a refund.

But there’s other incentives.

“He has the most wins in challenges,” Charlie said, “He’s going all over the country competing, and people use his website (foodchallenges.com) to set up challenges in the U.S. and other countries.”
