In case you missed it, here’s a look back at a few business highlights for the past week.

Azte K Bar, Grill and Dance Hall opening in early March

With 12 years of restaurant experience, Aurora Santilliam Palacios is opening Azte K Bar, Grill and Dance Hall at 63 Heritage Square.

“We hope to be open in early March, and we’re going to have chimichangas, burritos, quesadillas, tacos, steaks and sandwiches,” Aurora said. “We’re also going to have Mariachi bands on Sunday, which is a family day.”

The restaurant will offer seating for about 80 people, and business hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Thursdays; 8 p.m., 8 p.m., Friday to 3 a.m., Saturday, and 8 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m., Sundays.

Aurora had her request to sell, store and serve beer on the premises where sold approved by the Jackson Beer Board, Thursday.

Shirley Jones retires from the Jackson Chamber

When the Jackson City Council held its monthly meeting February 6, the day was proclaimed “Shirley Jones Day,” and she was presented with a “Key to the City,” for her 24 years of service at the Jackson Chamber.

The appreciation continued Wednesday, during a reception at the Chamber for Shirley, the organization’s vice president of public affairs, who has been recognized by the United States Chamber of Commerce and the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce for excellence in governmental affairs.

“This is just a great day for me,” Shirley said. “I’ve been working at the Chamber for 24 years … I have loved everything I have done. I have loved being a small part of this community (and) I will miss all of my friends so much. This entire community is my friend.”

She officially retires Wednesday.

Originally a volunteer at the Jackson Chamber, she has worked closely with elected officials and government entities at the local, state and federal level.

She has organized activities of the Chamber’s largest group of volunteers – the Ambassadors – coordinating individual member events, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings and grand openings.

Realty Income Corporation sold the 8,800-square-foot facility to O’Reilly Automotive Stores, Inc., for $595,500.

O’Reilly Auto Parts also has stores at 3204 North Highland Avenue, and 1300 South Highland Avenue.

Beer Board fines 3 restaurants during Show Cause meeting

The Jackson Beer Board fined three restaurants as the result of an underage alcohol operation conducted by Metro Narcotics.

Flatiron Grille, 1160 Vann Drive and Outback Steakhouse, 194 Stonebrook Place had its beer license suspended for 30 days, but if a $1,500 fine is paid within seven days, the suspensions for both will be lifted.

Don Pancho Mexican Restaurant, 1081 Vann Drive, Suite 113-E, had its license suspended for 30 days, due to a second violation.

KFC offering new flagship design at North Highland Avenue restaurant

It’s not just a renovation at KFC, 2051 North Highland Avenue – it’s what company officials are calling a new flagship design.

The “American Showman,” consists of a complete facelift of the building’s interior and exterior by Richardson Turner Construction (RTC) of Knoxville.

The exterior of the 2,800-square-foot building will be red and white, and RTC is gutting the interior to make way for new windows, new tile flooring and new equipment.

Company officials are looking at reopening the restaurant – which has seating for about 80 people – in four weeks.

According to the Madison County Register of Deeds, Gelman Family Horizons LLC sold the property to JRN Inc., for $1,457,500, in November, 2017.
