Business Spotlight – Dayle Mathis new Economic Development Specialist at SWTDD

Southwest Tennessee Development District – the leading regional economic and community development organization in Southwest Tennessee – has partnered with the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) to establish a position to assist counties and cities in the region in economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are pleased to announce that Dayle Mathis, a U.S. Air Force veteran, has assumed this position and will be assisting our communities in their recovery efforts,” said Joe Barker, SWTDD Executive Director.

The eight county region of SWTDD includes the counties and cities of Madison, Henderson, Decatur, Hardin, McNairy, Chester, Hardeman, and Haywood.

Dayle will be working closely with local elected officials, economic development professionals, local businesses and industry, and our Federal and state partners to develop strategies and plans for economic recovery and disaster mitigation.

The goal of SWTDD is to create a stronger economic region by working together.

REAL ESTATE MARKET REPORT for Jackson & Madison County

The Real Estate Market Report for Jackson-Madison County – according to the Multiple Listing Service – takes a look at the activity for the previous month.

New homes for sale in Jackson in June stood at 47, compared to 35, for May 2020.

New construction homes sold January 1 through June 30, was 61, compared to 51, for May 2020.

The number of homes on the market, which includes all of Madison County through June 30, stood at 156.

Average days on the market – January 1 through June 30, was 46.

The average sales price for a home year to date is $178,263.

Walmart starts requiring all customers to wear face masks, Monday, July 20

Beginning July 20, Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, becomes the latest national chain to require all customers to wear masks.

Walmart has two supercenters in Jackson – 2196 Emporium Drive, and 2171 South Highland Avenue.

“As the number of confirmed cases has spiked in communities across the country recently, so too have the number and types of face covering mandates being implemented,” according to a news release from Walmart, Wednesday.

About 65% of its more than 5,000 stores, including its Sam’s Club locations, are located in areas where there is government mandate on face coverings.
