Chandelier Restaurant closes permanently in downtown Jackson

Chandelier Café and Caterer, located inside the historic Neely House has made a temporary closing permanent.

Once a beautiful home, later refurbished as a hotel at 575 South Royal St., near the railroad depot, the ground floor became home of Jackson’s newest upscale restaurant, Sept. 24, 2015.

The restaurant became a blend of re-purposed and new décor envisioned by the chef, Jennifer Dickerson, and her partner, Mac Edwards.

Both Dickerson and Edwards are from Memphis.

Dickerson posted this note on Chandelier’s Facebook page –

“While I was hopeful that our closing would be temporary, I am sad to announce that Chandelier will be closing permanently.

“I have come to know and love the people of Jackson. Being able to take my vision and turn it into a restaurant completed a lifelong dream and is something that I will always cherish. This restaurant will always have a piece of my heart.

“We are so thankful for all the support from the community for the past several years. Thank you for giving me and my amazing family of employees the opportunity to create Sexy Southern Cuisine in Jackson!”

West Tennessee Healthcare – Maranda Jones named employee of the month for June

Maranda Jones, an 11-year employee at West Tennessee Healthcare, earned the organization’s employee of the month award for June.

Maranda was recognized during the West Tennessee Healthcare’s Board of Trustees monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Tuesday.

According to her co-workers, “Maranda is one of the most giving people; one of those special people who would give a stranger their last dollar.”

Maranda and her mother take time and money out of their pocket to sew all crib sheets for the NICU.

The parents love to pick out a special bed sheet to decorate cribs/isolettes and radiant warmers.

They have made numerous sheets to fit our babies to help provide a small comfort for the parents.

Maranda always has a positive attitude and a smile on her face!

Teresa Thompson, who was the employee of the month for March was also recognized, Tuesday.

NOTE: Tuesday’s meeting was the first at the hospital since February.

She serves the Labor and Delivery department as a primary charge nurse and is more like a mother than anything. Some call her “Mother Teresa” because she is a perfect example of Christ’s love in a leader. She is kind and loving to everyone.

JEA approves low bid of $236,000 plus for furnishings at 119 E. College Street

If all goes according to plan, renovations at the former administration building for Jackson Energy Authority at 119 E. College St., should be completed in about four months.

“The contractor has been renovating the building since about the first of the year and he is making good progress on it,” said Jim Ferrell, JEA’s president/CEO, “He is expecting to have it completed in October, so we sent out bids for the office furnishings for the building so those furnishings will arrive about the same time the building is being completed.”

JEA’s Board of Directors received three bids from Office Interiors, Memphis; A-Z Office Resource Inc., Jackson, and Workspace Interiors, Boca Raton, Florida.

JEA approved a low bid of $236,687.17 from Office Interiors of Memphis.

The estimated cost of renovation was $3,000,000.
