Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors approve 16 resolutions during monthly meeting

“The JEA Board reviewed and approved several business items that will have positive impacts on the system,” Monte Jones said, “The board also approved the 2022 fiscal budget with no increase to base utility rates.

“JEA continues to provide reliable services in our community and the board is very proud of all the staff for the dedication and commitment to serving their clients.”

Monte Jones is the chairman of the board of directors at Jackson Energy Authority.

Famous restaurant destined for historic Greyhound Bus Station

Doe’s Eat Place announced it is expanding locations to occupy the historic
Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Jackson, Tennessee.

With the arrival of Doe’s, this will be the first time the landmark building will be in full-time operation since accepting its last Greyhound bus in October 2018.

The station, built in 1938, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 for its
architectural significance.

Paul Signa, owner of Doe’s Eat Place, signed an agreement with John Allen of John H. Allen Co, Inc. to operate inside this historic landmark.

Doe’s began as a family-owned restaurant in Greenville, Mississippi, in 1941. It has expanded locations throughout the South and in Missouri and Oklahoma. The eatery is famous for its porterhouse steak, although it began by serving hot beef tamales. It offers a variety of foods for everyone.
Doe’s Eat Place plans to open in the fall of 2021.

West Tennessee Healthcare & Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital announce Pediatric Collaboration in West TN

West Tennessee Healthcare and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital have announced a new collaboration to provide specialized pediatric care to the children of West Tennessee. A resolution approving the collaboration was approved by the West Tennessee Healthcare board at their meeting on June 29, 2021.

In July, the two organizations will ask the State of Tennessee for approval to develop a pediatric hospital-within-a-hospital licensed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital inside Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The pediatric unit will be the first of its kind in West Tennessee and is proposed to be staffed by pediatric experts from Le Bonheur and West Tennessee Healthcare.

The two organizations will work together in their shared mission of improving the health status of West Tennessee children by enhancing access to expert pediatric care and developing more comprehensive pediatric specialty programs. This will allow West Tennessee children from an 18-county radius to stay closer to home, while receiving the highest level of care.

GE appliances adds new product line to growing manufacturing plant in Selmer

SELMER, TN. – GE Appliances (GEA), a Haier company, is continuing its U.S. manufacturing expansion with a $5 million investment in its Selmer, Tennessee Monogram Refrigeration subsidiary to begin production of new Zoneline vertical terminal air conditioners, or VTACs, commonly used in hotels and private residential facilities.

The new product line was formerly produced in Mexico, and the decision was made to reshore production closer to U.S. customers. The new investment will create the fifth assembly line at the plant and add 33 new jobs, bringing total employment to 465.

West Tennessee Healthcare – Tyler Lay named employee of the month

Tyler Lay, an employee for over 10 years at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, was named West Tennessee Healthcare’s employee of the month for June.

Tyler, a registered nurse who works in the pre-admit testing clinic department, received the award during the West Tennessee Healthcare’s Board of Trustees monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Tuesday.

The award was presented by Vice President: Deann Thelen, VP/CEO, Jackson-Madison County General Hospital; Executive Director – Herb Owrey, Surgical Services; Director, and Kimberly Crews, Perioperative Services.

Commercial Bank & Trust Company adding new location at Oil Well Road and Pleasant Plains Road

Commercial Bank and Trust Company has purchased property at 623 and 635 Oil Well Road in north Jackson.

“The bank is currently planning for a new location and pending approvals, would anticipate building on the site within the next 24 months,” said Community President Monte Jones, “The land – about 2.4 acres – is at the northeast corner of Oil Well Road and Pleasant Plains Road.”

Jones said Commercial Bank currently has two locations in Jackson – 3093 North Highland Avenue and 79 Stonebridge Boulevard – along with its mobile bank courier service.

The new location will offer full service banking to include mortgage loans and trust services.
