Business Spotlight – James Matthew Wyatt named Director of Operations for The Jackson Symphony

 

JACKSON, TN — James Matthew Wyatt has been named Director of Operations for The Jackson Symphony. Originally from Paris, Tennessee, Wyatt now calls Jackson home and brings a deep commitment to community, culture, and public service to his new role.

 

Wyatt’s career has centered on building relationships and creating opportunities across West Tennessee. He previously served as a Field Representative for U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn, working closely with local leaders, organizations, and residents in across the region. As an educator in the Henry County School System, he led theatrical and speech programs that emphasized creativity, collaboration, and student voice.

 

With a background in both the arts and public service, Wyatt is passionate about strengthening access to music and cultural experiences, especially in rural communities, and supporting the Symphony’s role as a gathering place for connection, creativity, and shared experience.

 

“James brings a rare combination of organizational skill, artistic sensibility, and deep roots in West Tennessee,” said Paul Haas, Music Director of The Jackson Symphony. “He understands how the Symphony fits into the life of this region, not just as a performing arts organization, but as a community partner. His passion for access, education, and connection aligns beautifully with where we are headed, and I’m thrilled to welcome him to our leadership team.”

Dr. Frank McMeen, president of The Community Foundation of West Tennessee, retires

 

Dr. Frank McMeen, president of The Community Foundation of West Tennessee, retired Friday.

 

The President acts as a liaison to various outside agencies, organizations, groups, and the public and develops, recommends, and implements programs, policies, and procedures for the operation of the Community Foundation under his direct supervision of the Community Foundation Board of Trustees.

 

At The Community Foundation since March 1, 1998, McMeen has helped engineer a mercurial rise in assets at the organization which have exceeded $63 million, with more than 500 Community Funds.

 

“Endowments have grown to three-fourths of all assets, meaning the Foundation is now highly sustainable to provide support to charitable causes in perpetuity,” McMeen said. “Celebrities – that include Barbara Bush, Paul Harvey, Issac Hayes, Jane Seymour, B. J. Thomas, and Max Lucado – have been brought to Jackson to support our work and the causes we support.”

 

McMeen has been – and continues – to be tireless in his support for the City of Jackson.

 

He serves as a councilman for the City of Jackson, District 5.

 

He was named the Jackson Exchange Club’s Man of the Year during the 78th annual event in 2023.

 

But the awards didn’t stop there.

 

He has been named the Rotarian of the Year, Leadership Jackson’s Emerging Leader, was presented the Harbert Alexander Award and the University of Memphis’ Outstanding Alumnus Award.

 

McMeen a board member at the Boys and Girls Club, Lambuth Area Neighborhood Association (LANA) Board President, Tennessee Dental Association Board Treasurer, Jackson Equity Project Treasurer, and Freed-Hardeman University’s President’s Advisory Council.

 

An author of three books, McMeen has renovated 13 homes in midtown Jackson.

 

He graduated from Freed-Hardeman University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree – Bible, Master’s – Leadership, Doctorate – Education, and continues to serve as an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Memphis and Freed-Hardeman University.

 

NIKE Retail Services, Inc., laying off 583 employees at Memphis location

NIKE Retail Services, Inc. has filed an official WARN Notice with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, notifying the agency of a permanent layoff effective April 03, 2026.

 

The total number of affected workers is 583. This company is located at 3100 New Frayser Blvd., Memphis, TN 38128, and 5151 Shelby Drive, Memphis, TN 38118.

 

The company notified the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Dislocated Worker Unit on January 26, 2026.

 

The employees at the facility are not represented by a collective bargaining agreement, and do not have bumping rights. The Greater Memphis Local Workforce Development Area rapid response team, employed by the Greater Memphis Chamber, has been notified to coordinate services with the employer and affected employees.

 

Tennessee Industrial Printing expands capabilities with new press

 

JACKSON, TN – Tennessee Industrial Printing (TIPS) is taking its printing capabilities to the next level with the addition of a new RMGT 920 Series 8P (8-color pr) press. This new press was delivered in December and is now fully operational.

 

This 36-inch press is a major investment in innovation for the long-standing Jackson-based printer. The new RMGT 920 is the only press of its kind in the West Tennessee market and among just a few in Tennessee. This strengthens TIPS’s position as the region’s most advanced commercial print provider.

 

“For more than 50 years, our goal has been to keep improving so we can deliver quality, speed, and value for every client,” said Wayne Chambers, owner and general manager of TIPS. “This new press is another step forward in that commitment.”

 

Beyond printing, TIPS offers full-service bindery, kitting, and mailing to ensure every project is completed with accuracy and care.

 

Staff readies Jackson Regional Airport for reopening

Couldn’t be more proud of this team. Huge thanks to a our team and to Ken Couch and his crew for showing up clutch (Monday).

 

We had 14 guys out there today breaking up snow and ice and doing the hard work it takes to keep an airport moving. We’ll be closed (Tuesday), but we’re on track to reopen Wednesday.

 

Sincere appreciation to everyone who braved the elements and icy roads to help get Jackson Regional Airport back open. This is what teamwork and commitment look like.
