Demolition gives way for new commercial developments on South Highland Avenue
Demolition of two structures – 1871 South Highland Avenue and 1911 South Highland Avenue – across from Bonwood Cafe – is complete.
According to Ann-Marie Kelley – owner of Kelley Investments – the former Truck Cap Express – Truck Accessories – 1871 South Highland Ave. – with house at 1863 South Highland Ave. – will give way for a new commercial development.
A new convenience store with fuel pumps is scheduled for 1911 South Highland Avenue.
Scooter’s sets opening date for new coffeehouse on South Highland Avenue
Scooter’s Coffee, 1732 South Highland Avenue, an American drive-thru coffeehouse, opens at 5 a.m., Monday, July 21.
The location is the former home of Jamaica Me Tan & Jamaica Me Beautiful.

5 a.m. – 10 p.m., Monday through Friday
6 a.m. – 10 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays
Scooter’s founded and headquartered in Bellevue, Nebraska, has 800 plus in 29 states, and is currently the second-largest drive-through coffee chain and the fifth-largest coffee chain in the United States.
The menu includes hot and cold drinks, including coffee, tea, and smoothies; and food items, such as pastries, burritos, and sandwiches. It also has breakfast and kids menus. Its signature drink is the Caramelicious, an espresso drink with caramel sauce and whipped cream.
Hotel, restaurant planned for Park Place West
Details are limited, but a new hotel and restaurant are in the works for Park Place West.
The new development will be located on Christmasville Cove, next to a Burger King, Wendy’s, and Starbucks.
A new hotel will be the eighth for the area.
Construction continues on La Quinta Inns & Suites, 140 East Park Square in Park Place East – near The Ballpark at Jackson.
The four-story, 87-room hotel – offering 89 parking spaces – is being constructed on a two-acre lot.
La Quinta Inns & Suites is a chain of limited service hotels in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Honduras.
La Quinta is the seventh hotel either under construction or open in Park Place East and Park Place West.
WoodSpring Suites, a 13,120-square-foot facility at 19 Bink Drive – 2939 Ridgecrest Road Extended – is being constructed on 2.46 acres, and will offer 142 rooms with 131 parking spaces.
WoodSpring Suites will join SpringHill Suites by Marriott, and Best Western Plus Executive Residency in Park Place West.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites and StayAPT Suites are located across Dr. F.E. Wright Drive in Park Place East – the same area as La Quinta Inns & Suites.
A seventh hotel, Marriott Studio Res, is under construction next door to WoodSpring Suites on Lizzie Anna Cove in Park Place West.
The new four story, 13,600-plus-square-foot prototype hotel will be constructed on approximately three acres and consist of 124 rooms and 133 parking spaces.
Former home of popular automobile dealership demolished on North Highland Avenue
The former home of Jackson Motor Company, 2625 North Highland Avenue, has been demolished.
Jackson Motor Company was formed in 1986, and enjoyed a 38-year run – 33 years on North Highland Avenue, and five years at 5359 Nika Drive off U.S. Highway 45 Bypass at Three Way, before owner Jim Grant decided the time had come to close the business.
The Kay Cox Family Trust sold the North Highland Avenue property to Black Cypress Pyramid LLC, in June 2025, for $450,000.
The Kay Cox Family Trust acquired the property from James N. Grant Jr. and Debbie J. Grant for $370,000.
Owners could not be reached for comment.
Rockabillys to host 2025 Jackson City Fair in August
Jackson, Tenn. – The Jackson Rockabillys today announced that the Jackson City Fair will take place this August 20-24 in the Rockabillys Stadium parking lots. This marks the first time that an event of this type will take place at the stadium, as the Rockabillys continue to bring various types of family entertainment to the area.
