Unemployment rates for West Tennessee counties

Highlights from the April 2023 Labor Force Estimates:

The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee decreased to 3.3% in April from March’s 3.4%.
During the same time period, the Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States decreased to 3.4% from March’s 3.5%.
The unemployment rate decreased in all 95 counties.

Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors approve 5 resolutions during monthly meeting

The Jackson Energy Authority’s Board of Directors approved five resolutions during their monthly meeting at The Tennergy Center, Thursday.

“JEA’s Board of Directors met to hear preliminary budget presentations from all divisions (Thursday),” Monte Jones said, “Each Senior Management member presented information on their respective areas along with an overall budget discussion from Chief Financial Officer Mechele Williams in preparation for the formal June budget reviews.

“Also, the board reviewed and approved five business resolutions for material and repair work to be completed.

“CEO Monte Cooper also gave brief updates on some recent industrial and development announcements in Jackson.”

Monte Jones is chairman of the Board of Directors, Jackson Energy Authority.

Resolutions authorized or approved included –

  • The purchase of a Substation Material Package for the Madison West Substation Expansion Project – Substation Engineering & Design, Pelham, Alabama submitted the low bid of $173,148
  • The purchase of (10) 15kV Substation Switches for the Madison West Substation Expansion Project – the bid of $58,500 from GMHR, Nashville, was accepted based on a lead time of 20-to-24 week lead time
  • A distribution transformer blanket purchase – GRESCO Utility, Nashville, submitted the low bid of $1,623,086
  • Authorizing asphalt resurfacing with Martin Paving Company, Inc., due to Water and Wastewater rehabilitation – Martin Paving Company, Medina, submitted the low bid of $110,410
  • The purchase of eleven (11) Adtran OLT cards for the Telecom Division – KGPCO, Lenexa, Kansas, submitted the low bid of $132,000

Business Spotlight – Adelsberger Marketing introduces Phillips, Yarbrough as new summer interns

JACKSON, TENNESSEE – Adelsberger Marketing is pleased to announce its new interns Rachel Phillips and Hannah Yarbrough.

According to a press release from Roshni Patel – Adelsberger Marketing – they will join the Adelsberger Marketing team this summer to assist and learn various aspects of the digital marketing field.

Rachel Phillips, a Jackson native, attends the University of Mississippi and is majoring in Integrated Marketing and Communications.

She has garnered her love of football into a potential career path. She hopes to work in sports marketing after graduation. While at Adelsberger Marketing, Rachel will assist in content growth and social media development.

Hannah Yarbrough, a University of Tennessee Knoxville student, was born and raised in Jackson.

She is currently a student at the Haslam College of Business and is majoring in marketing.

Hannah is excited to gain more knowledge and experience within the business and marketing sector while at Adelsberger Marketing.

Hannah will assist in content promotion and social media development this summer.

Business Spotlight – Shahera Mallard joins Hickman Realty Group

Milan, Tennessee – Hickman Realty Group welcomes a new real estate professional to the Milan office.

Tazikis Mediterranean Cafe opens on Vann Drive

Tazikis Mediterranean Cafe has opened at 1142 Vann Drive in front of Home Depot.

Menu items include feasts, sandwiches, Gyros, soups and salads.

Seating is available for 42 inside – 40 for dining on the patio.

Business hours – 11 a.m – 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday; 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., Sundays.

With restaurants primarily in the southeast – three in Memphis – Tazikis has more than 100 restaurants nationwide.

The 1,183-square-foot Jackson location will be the 23rd in Tennessee.

Commercial property on Vann Drive sells for $2 million plus

Commercial property at 1110 Vann Drive in The Columns Development has been sold.

Starlight Fuel LLC purchased the property from Jose Onate, Ricardo Onate, Rafael Onate and Arturo Onate for $2,165,000.

The 4,640-square-foot building is the former home of West Alley Bar-B-Q & Smoke House, which closed in March 2021.

Casa Adobe Restaurante occupied the facility before West Alley, but closed in June 2018.
