A simple walk in the park gave the Jackson Generals a 4-3 win over the Montgomery Biscuits, and a 1-0 lead in their Southern League best-of-five North Division Series at The Ballpark at Jackson, Wednesday.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Josh Prince walked with the bases loaded that scored Ben DeLuzio with the game’s winning run.
The Generals tied the game at 3-3 when a Marty Herum infield single scored Dominic Miroglio, who reached base earlier when he was hit by a Yoel Espinal pitch.
DeLuzio and Kevin Medrano also worked Espinal for walks, which loaded the bases.
Sam Lewis, who worked the final two-thirds of the Montgomery ninth picked up the win for the Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Espinal (0-1), faced seven hitters, issued three walks, hit one batter and allowed one hit in his two-thirds innings of work for the Buscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Jackson’s Jon Duplantier (5-1, 2.55 ERA) faces Montgomery’s Brock Burke (6-1, 1.95 ERA) when the series resumes at 6:05 p.m., today, at The Ballpark at Jackson.
