Kayla Beaver, a South Side graduate and fifth-year senior softball pitcher at the University of Alabama, and Lane Forsythe, a Trinity Christian Academy graduate and senior shortstop at Oklahoma State University, helped their team to titles this weekend.
Beaver was on the mound in a relief role when the Tide defeated Tennessee, 4-1, to win the Knoxville Super Regional two games to one and advance to the Women’s College World Series, which begins Thursday, in Oklahoma City.
Beaver and Alabama forced Sunday’s winner take all game following its 3-2 win Saturday, in what became the longest softball game in super regional history.
Beaver pitched 10 shut-out innings setting the stage for Sunday’s final.
Forsythe, who played at Mississippi State when the Bulldogs won the 2021 national championship, celebrated Saturday after the Cowboys defeated Oklahoma 9-3 to win the Big 12 conference title in Dallas.
OSU will host the Stillwater Regional in the NCAA tournament, which begins Thursday.
