Some taken to hospital after exiting Delta Fair ride

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Officials said eight people were taken to local hospitals after a ride shut down at the Delta Fair in Memphis.

The fair’s safety director Matt Snyder says the Moonraker ride’s computer detected a problem and immediately began safety shutdown. Snyder said the operator of the ride panicked and halted the ride, releasing the safety restraint before it had settled into its cradle.

Snyder says two adults and six children were transported to local hospitals after walking from the ride under their own power. He says none had visible injuries.

A spokesman from the Shelby County Sheriff’s office says initial reports that 14 people were thrown from the ride were inaccurate.

The ride has been shut down but the fair remained open Saturday.
