JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) — Agriculture officials plan to hold a soil conservation conference in Jackson later this month.

The U.S. Agriculture Department's Natural Resources Conservation Service says the West Tennessee Soil Health Conference is scheduled to take place July 16 at Liberty High School in Jackson.

At the meeting, landowners can learn how to improve nutrient use efficiency, increase infiltration while reducing runoff, eliminate compaction, reduce costs and maximize net profits. Officials say that using soil health management systems can make farms more profitable, productive and sustainable.

One of the guest speakers is agronomist Ray Archuleta, known as "The Soils Guy."

Archuleta travels throughout the country talking with farmers about the many benefits of good soil health while conducting soil and water demonstrations.

The Madison County Soil Conservation District is hosting the conference.
