Some roads in Smokies reopen

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) – Officials at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park say some roads have reopened after a record amount of snow and ice fell over the weekend.
WBIR-TV (http://on.wbir.com/1wrzznK) reports Cades Cove Loop Road reopened Sunday, as well as part of Laurel Creek Road. One of the main roads in the park, Highway 441, which runs from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to Cherokee, North Carolina, remained closed.
Some parts of the park saw record snowfall over the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, Mount LeConte recorded 22 inches of snow as of Sunday, marking a new daily snowfall.
Employees at the LeConte Lodge in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park in Tennessee dug themselves out of 22 inches of snow that fell Saturday.
The temperature on Saturday was nine degrees.Guests at LeConte Lodge have been snowed in since Friday.
Warmer temperatures are expected beginning on Monday, when the projected high is 61 degrees.
