Sister act – TCA grads Macey & Olivia Lee combine for 34 points in Union basketball win

JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University’s Macey Lee and Olivia Lee combined for 34 and the Lady Bulldogs extended their win streak to seven following a 106-70 win over Delta State University.

Graduates of Trinity Christian Academy, Macey Lee, a junior, scored a game high 20 points (six rebounds, four assists), and her sister Olivia, a freshman, added 14 (two rebounds) for Union, who improved to 7-0 overall, 2-0 in Gulf South Conference play.

Delta State struck first in the matchup with the Bulldogs following the conversion of two free throws by Elisha Wilson. Delta State jumped out to a 12-4 lead courtesy of six points from Elisha Wilson and a pair of three-pointers from the wings. Brooke Hampel (13 points, four rebounds, one assist) scored the first six points for the Bulldogs following a complete lineup substitution.

Delta State held a 16-8 lead with five minutes left in the first period before Shanique Lucas cut the lead down to six with two layups, one in transition following her first block of the game. With just under two minutes left in the first period, Macey Lee was able to convert two layups to cut the DSU lead to four.

Union’s Shanique Lucas and Macey Lee were able to hit two three-pointers to end the first period with their first lead of the game.

Jayla Smith grabbed the lead right back for DSU with a layup. Shanique Lucas continued to attack the basket with a layup of her own to retake the lead for the Lady Bulldogs. Lauren West was able to connect from deep in back-to-back possession to extend the Bulldog lead to eight points.

Macey Lee helped Union grab its biggest lead of the game with a 3-pointer. With just over four minutes left in the period, Chelsea Hamilton scored a fast-break layup to cut the Lady Bulldog down to five. Jazalyn Anousinh halted a 6-0 DSU run with a three-point play following a tough layup in transition. Union ended the half tied for their biggest lead of the game (10).

In the third quarter, Macey Lee came out the break firing from deep, connecting from distance to extend the Bulldog lead to 13. Lee then continued her hot scoring hitting her 18th and 19th point from the charity stripe.

Olivia Lee joined her sister on the scoreboard scoring her first two points of the game with a layup under the basket. Lauren West converted on a transition three to capture Union’s largest lead of the game (16). Lucas capped off a 12-0 run by the Lady Bulldogs, extending their lead to 22 points. The Lady Bulldog defense did not allow a field goal for the final 6:26 of the third period.

Union closed out the game in the fourth quarter while continuing their impressive offensive stretch to start the season, scoring 100 points for the fourth time (No. 1 in Division II averaging over 100 points per game).

Olivia Lee and Leah Cauble led the Bulldogs in scoring in the final period with eight points each. Union ended the game shooting 50% from the floor. The Lady Bulldog’s constant pressure on defense proved to be the difference for Union. Union scored 35 points off DSU turnovers and had six players in double-digit scoring.
