From the Madison County Sheriff’s Department –
On February 6, 2021, at approximately 12:42 a.m., Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of North Highland Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard in reference to a traffic incident initiated by the Jackson Police Department (JPD).
Once JPD Officers made contact with the vehicle, they learned that there was a shooting that had occurred just prior to this incident in the area of North Highland and Ashport Road, and a juvenile victim was found to be deceased in the backseat from an apparent gun-shot wound.
During the course of this investigation, investigators developed a suspect and arrested Edtric Devon Rutherford, Jr. for two (2) counts of Felony Murder in Perpetration of Attempted First Degree Murder, two (2) counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, and two (2) counts of Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has assisted the Madison County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation, along with JPD, Humboldt PD, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This investigation is still ongoing.
