Services set for Jim Moss, retired president/CEO West Tennessee Healthcare

James “Jim” Taylor Moss, Sr., was born on July 19, 1947, in New Iberia, Louisiana, the son of the late Rand and Lillie Moss. He passed away on January 22, 2026, in Jackson, Tennessee, leaving a legacy of love, service, and faith. His life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, his work, and God.

Jim was a proud husband to his wife of 55 years, Peggy LeBlanc Moss, with whom he enjoyed a life of love and devotion. Together, they raised children who reflected their shared values of faith and service: James “Jimmy” Moss, Jr. (Caroline), Jacob Moss (Megan), and Evelyn Moss Dearth (Mark). One of Jim’s greatest joys was being a grandfather to Madeliene, Julien, Trey, Will, Jack, and Lily. He held great affection for his sisters, Barbara Young and Ann Guillotte (Randy); his sisters-in-law, Sandra Moss and Mona Moss; as well as his many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert R. “Buddy” Moss and William “Bill” Moss, and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Young.

Jim began his career at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Louisiana before moving to Jackson in 1981 to serve as Associate Administrator of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Guided by his vision and leadership, he helped establish the hospital system that became West Tennessee Healthcare and changed the landscape of Healthcare in West Tennessee. He served as both President and CEO until his retirement in 2007. Jim was not just a leader; he was a gentle giant in the community, with a passion for helping others that was evident in every decision he made and every life he touched.

Jim served as an ordained deacon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He lived his faith through action, guiding others with a caring spirit and a kind heart. His selflessness was a shining example to all, and his friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his church and beyond.

In his personal life, Jim found joy in simple pleasures: cigars, crappie fishing on the Tennessee River, and watching LSU football. Above all, he had a true servant’s heart. His desire to share God’s love with others led him to compile his homilies into a book, preserving the messages he shared in church. His legacy of faith and service will live on in his family, the community he served, and the many lives he touched.

Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Jackson, Tennessee, beginning with a visitation on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and the Mass of Catholic Burial at 11:00 a.m. The Mass will be officiated by Monsignor Val Handwerker, along with Father Dennis Schenkel, Father Gabe Bouck, and Monsignor Al Kirk.

Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

A luncheon reception will follow in the Holy Family Hall at the church.

The family is requesting that memorial donations be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association online at www.alz.org or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
