Management at Toyota Bodine Aluminum, 301 James Lawrence Road, mixed business with science at its Jackson facility, Monday.

Team members went through the steps of a fire alarm drill, and once outside, they were able to pause to watch the Solar Eclipse, with safety glasses provided by Toyota Bodine.

“This is team member appreciation month at Toyota Bodine,” said Shawn Daly, plant manager at Toyota Bodine Aluminum in Jackson. “We’re doing various activities, and we realized the eclipse was going on and we had not done the fire drill yet … something we do every fall.

“This was a great time for us to put the two together. Our team members are safely looking at the eclipse, and that’s our primary concern – safety first.”

Shawn said Toyota Bodine Aluminum ordered about 400 pairs of safety glasses for its team members, which numbers about 300, with additional pairs for contractors and visitors.

Toyota Bodine Aluminum in Jackson manufactures 4-cylinder engine blocks for Camry, Corolla, RAV4 and V6 engine blocks for, Camry, Highlander, Sienna, the Tacoma pickup and the Lexus ES and Lexus RX, and the V8 engine block for Sequoia SUV and Tundra truck.

Toyota Bodine also manufactures automatic transmission cases and housings for Avalon, Camry, Lexus RX 350 and Sienna.

About 2.2 million engine blocks and transmission cases are manufactured each year at the Jackson facility.

Toyota Bodine Aluminum ships its finished product to Huntsville, Alabama; Georgetown, Kentucky and Buffalo, West Virginia.

The company utilizes 40 acres of 200 total acres in Airport Industrial Park, at its 450,000-square-foot facility, where production began in 2005.
