Baseball returned to the Ballpark at Jackson in the form of the Prospect League, but the visiting Cape Catfish (2-0) had reason to celebrate on their own.
Cape handed the homestanding Jackson Rockabillys (0-3) a 13-4 loss before a crowd of 3,682.
The Rockabillys held a 4-3 lead after four innings after first baseman Wesley Mann (2-4, 2 RBI, Dyersburg State Community College) launched a two-run home run over the left centerfield wall, but it was all Cape from there.
The visitors from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth, and took the lead for keeps with two in the top of the seventh.
Brody Chrisman (Purdue University) singled, and Kaden Jeffries (Metropolitan Community College) doubled to left centerfield setting up Dee Triplett (Cumberland University) who pushed both runners home with a single to right.
The ball scooted past Jackson right fielder Dalton Rudd (Three Rivers Community College) allowing Jeffries to score and Cape increased its advantage to 6-4.
Righthanded pitcher Tyler Smith (South Side High School, University of South Alabama) started the game for the Rockabillys and allowed three runs – earned – and seven hits in five innings of work.
The Rockabillys and Catfish play at Capaha Park in Cape Girardeau, at 7:35 p.m., today.
